I thought the recording could be bad, but the disc played fine on another player. Just finished doing it tonight to my SONY DVP NS325 was playing a disc very poorly bad audio distorted and slightly out of sync, video of fair to poor quality. A DVD/CD lens cleaning disc also work for a time then I think the little brushes get dirty and then the disc does not work so well. It is sure worth a try, before you trash the drive. Be very carefull not to apply too much pressure on the lens. I tried physically cleaning the lens with some 100% pure Alcohol (a camera len cleaner should work) and a Q-Tip, and some white lube or WD40 on the rails, did not work all the time but at least 50% of the time. Just thought this may be of value to those who are not faint of heart about investigating problem hardware. The CD/RW was barely operable before doing the cleaning. It took about 20 minutes per drive and now they are running very good. Both items had terrible problems and I was ready to buy new and trash these drives. Did the same thing with the DVD Rom drive and it performs properly now also. Problems solved!!! It will now read and write anything I throw at it. Re-assembled and put back in the machine. While it was apart, I put a little WD40 on a Q-Tip and applied a little to the rails that the laser slides on. With the tray pulled most of the way out, I cleanded the lens with a Q-Tip and alchohol. Remove the bottom cover, 4 small screws, carefully lifted the complete mechanism up out of the case after removing the front Bezel. With not much to lose on a 6 year old machine, I took out the CD/RW drive first.

My friend found that following this procedure (minus step 4) completely fixed the SuperDrive in the MacBook Pro that had not worked in almost four years. Pull the credit card out and insert again - repeat four to five times - add some more cleaning fluid if it evaporates.Insert the cloth-wrapped credit card on the left-most side of the slot drive by about 1.5 inches.

But for some reason that night I decided to do a Google search on the best ways to clean your optical drive. He asked me if I tried everything to clean the drive. I warned him the SuperDrive didn't work and if he wanted a working one, he'd need to pay to replace it. Last month I gave the MacBook to a friend. Nothing worked, so I just assumed the drive was dead. I didn't really care that my SuperDrive seemed to be bust as I had no use for it, but over the next year, I would occasionally attempt to get it working by running various CD cleaner products on it and blowing inside the drive. Matter of fact, it ejected every subsequent DVD and CD we put in. We inserted the disc, only to have the SuperDrive spit it right back out. But in 2011, a friend's kid wanted to watch a DVD on my laptop during a trip. I can't remember the last time there was anything I needed to read or load from a CD. I rarely used the SuperDrive in my 2009 MacBook Pro.
